St. Joseph County 4H Goat Club Rules

(*) THESE ITEMS ARE REQUIRED TO BE ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE CLUB TROPHIES


  1. * Animals entered in this project must be owned by the club member or owned jointly by the club member and parent or guardian by May 15, of current year. Animals must have USDA official scrapies tag. All market animals must be tagged on the assigned registration day from 8 am to 12:00 noon (See schedule). ALL 4H Fair Show Registration Forms for Market Goats MUST be turned into the superintendent at that time. NO additions to the market class will be added after that date.
  2. * The 4H Fair Show registration forms for all non-market goats MUST be turned into the superintendent by June 1st of the current year. Each member MUST complete his or her own form listing which animals are to be shown by that member.
  3. * Members must attend at least three (3) county meetings and are encouraged to participate in the club fund-raiser to be eligible for Goat Club trophies (attendance will be taken at each meeting and at the fund-raiser).
  4. The club will pay junior membership for each member wishing to join ADGA or NPGA. Membership will run January to December.
  5. Registered and non-registered goats will be shown in the same classes.
  6. NO BUCKS are allowed at the Fair.
  7. Every goat must have a collar or tie chain available. Dairy Goats should be shown with a choker chain. Pygmy goats should be shown with a black collar and a short black lead.
  8. Goats must be free of horns.
  9. All milking goats should be milked dry between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. the evening before judging. Goats will be checked by the Superintendent.
  10. All goats competing for champion honors that are in milk may be required to be milked before final awards are made.
  11. All goats in milk must be milked twice a day in the milking area between 5:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. during the Fair. The Superintendent will check animals.
  12. All goats should be fed and pens cleaned by 8:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. during the Fair by the 4H Goat Club Member.
  13. Members must do own showing or have the assistance of other 4H Goat Club Members. Parents will be required to stay clear of the staging area to allow the staff to facilitate the show.
  14. Members may exhibit only (2) two entries per section, and/or (1) Harness goat per section, but will be limited to ten (10) animals. A member is limited to entering two (2) market goats.
  15. The 4H Goat Advisory committee, Adult Leaders and Extension Agents will rule on any special problems arising at the Fair, and the decision will be final.
  16. Members clothes and person should be neat and clean for showing. White costumes are preferred for showmanship classes. No shorts will be allowed. White tops and jeans for classes.
  17. Each member will be allowed to sell only (2) market goats.
  18. All market goats must be born after January 1, of current year. Goats may be does or wethers. If doe goats are shown as market goats they cannot be shown in the breeding classes. Auction Sales Card must be turned into the Superintendent no later the Wednesday, of Fair week by 9:00 p.m. If a card is not turned in, the animal will not go through the sale ring. No withdraws are allowed.
  19. The goat classes will be broken down into Swiss, Nubian, Pygmy, & Boer type and shown accordingly.
  20. Any animal that develops signs of any sickness during exhibition, as determined by the superintendent and a veterinarian, must be removed from the premises including the surrounding exhibit grounds.
